#1. A Swiss diplomat copped a speeding fine worth $290 000. Seriously.

In Switzerland, the cost of a speeding fine is based on the speed the vehicle was travelling at as well as the driver’s income. The diplomat in question, who earns around $26 million per year, was clocked driving his Ferrari at 137km/h through a village.

The consequence? One huge fine for one very rich man who was going far too fast!!

#2. 60 million cars are produced worldwide every year.

That’s 165 000 cars per day!

What’s more, of the 165 000 cars that roll off the production line every 24 hours, only 14 of are Ferraris.

Maybe that explains the price!

#3. Women buy more new cars than men.

Think that the auto market is a man’s world? Think again.

Recent research by Cooper Tires revealed that women buy 60% of all new cars sold,
and influence 80% of all new car purchases.

You go, ladies!

#4. The average person will spend 2 weeks of their life stopped at red lights.

Ouch. Maybe we should make that time worthwhile. Start learning a language, anyone?

#5. The average car is made up of over 30 000 parts.

Alright, so this number does include the small stuff, like handle screws and panel pins.
But 30 000 is still an incredible figure when you give it some thought!

No wonder manufacturers invented machines to put cars together….

#6. Roads were originally built for cyclists.

This makes sense when you think about the progression of technology. A penny-farthing isn’t exactly an all-terrain vehicle.

Nonetheless, this car face adds an interesting twist to the more common debate surrounding cyclists on the road.

#7. The Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car of all time.

The Corolla is the perfect fit for drivers looking for an all-purpose car. The first Corolla was manufactured in 1966, and by 1974 it was already the world’s best-selling vehicle.

At last count, more than 40 million Corollas had been sold worldwide. In fact, Corollas are purchased so quickly that Toyota couldn’t keep track of where or when the 40 millionth Corolla was actually sold.

Maybe it’s yours!

#8. Adolf Hitler wanted a Mercedes. Really, really badly.

Yep. In 1924, Hitler wrote a letter to a Mercedes dealership pleading for a car loan
so that he could buy a 11/40 model.

Somehow, we suspect that his priorities were a bit out of whack.
